Site Update: 6 August 2026

The developmental roadmap for Greekislanddirectory.com has been finalised with a number of additions and position changes. These quality of life and monetization improvements are critical for the directories overall model.

  • V3 Quality pass, this includes pill table visual updates, sourcing as much of the directory as possible, structured repeatable templates, internal links, etc.
  • Remaining semantic queries; There are approximately 250 remaining, core pages such as those relating to outdoors, tourism level, nature and wildlife.
  • Island Hubs: Every pill table needs to link to islands, currently, only about 15 exist.
  • Ad Integration: The directory is free for all users, the only cost is a slight visual hinderance through display ads, pending approval 2026.
  • Affiliate Integration: People who come to commercial pages will be offered affiliate links for flights and hotels etc.
  • Articles: Long-tail informational articles that answer questions to queries relating the Greek islands.

Site Update: 3 August 2026

It was discovered today (3/8/2026) that a major data integrity flaw had been running on all 125 Greek islands when appraising island queries. In english, 3 islands (Paxos, Ios and Sikinos) had been left out of over 100 query appraisals. This means that a significant portion of pages they should belong in, they were never even evaluated for. Why would I tell on myself like this? Well the directory is still due for a final quality pass that will commence over the coming months as we near completion- we are just over 3 months old, but data integrity is at the core of what we do. Users deserve to know three islands have been essentially excluded from atleast 100+ queries. The good news is this is easily fixable, the bad news is I have no idea which pages were affected and likely never will. Thankfully, when the site moves to v3 in its entirety later in Q4 2026, we will be aiming for 90-95% completion, polish and with a high degree of data integrity.

Site Update: 28 July 2026

Greek island Directory.com now has two fantastic tools to share with the world: The Greek island Finder and the Greek island Comparison Tool. To date, these tools are the only ones of their kinds and help you decide within a few seconds which Greek island is right for you! As of 26 July both tools are fully functioning and require little effort to use for all ages.

Secondly, there is a pulse– Google search is slowly, slowly recovering following the update on 24-26 June.

Our directory was crushed to effectively zero exposure or visitors, but the trend appears to be very, very slowly reversing and we may be on track to previous number possibly by the end of the year (hopeful). Until then, we are sustained by bing, direct traffic, referrals and other obscure routes of access. Greek island directory also turned three months old on 21 July 2026. We are also in the process of integrating revenue models like affiliates and display ads.

Site Update: 21 July 2026

On 24-26 June, Google ran an algorithmic update that crushed Greekislanddirectory.com and millions of other websites across the globe. This is an annual initiative taken by google to crack down on spam, malicious sites and refine search experience. Our site was just over two month old when the update hit, and by 27 June traffic dropped off a cliff. Since then, google has given the directory a single organic user in almost 30 days. Though the charts via google search console appear to be improving as it relates to average position, impressions and exposure, we remain dead-in-the-water from a google visibility standpoint. However despite google demoting us, we have remained in good stead for a recovery courtesy of Bing and its derivatives (Yahoo, Ecosia, etc.). AI citations and referrals are rising, and we now have a presence on pintrest!
